Workplace Panel Survey

Survey Method

The『Workplace Panel Survey』was conducted in the order of in-advance contact, sending a mail package, developing survey table for employment status, and workplace visit for interviews(or web survey).

In-advance contact was made by trained researchers who called sampled workplaces to check basic information such as name, industry line and address, and to locate a person responsible for receiving mails as well as survey tables and responding to personal interviews. The number of employees was also confirmed with the in-advance contact. Then, a mail package was sent to responsible persons who had been identified from the in-advance contact.

In sending a mail package, a brochure introducing the Workplace Panel Survey(WPS), a letter requesting cooperation in the survey, and a survey table on worker status are sent to the person in charge identified through in-advance contact. The brochure on the Workplace Panel Survey contained survey purpose, method, structure, contents, meaning of participation and result report. It was made brief and visual for easy access by respondents. In addition, official documents asking for cooperation were developed respectively by the Korea Labor Institute, the Ministry of Labor and the Korea Employers Federation.

The survey table filled out by respondents in writing was returned via mail, fax, e-mail, etc. The survey table for employment status should be completed and collected before the interviewer visits the establishment to conduct the main survey. The survey table for employment status is self-completed by the respondent and can be completed directly via the web, or on paper or in a file and collected via email or fax. The financial status is substituted by data provided by NICE Information Service Co., Ltd.

The main survey is the stage where respondents are selected through in-advance contacts and interviewers visit the workplace to conduct interviews once the survey table for employment status is completed. At this time, the web survey is also used. Responses to the survey table for employment status should be completed before the interviewer visits the establishment to conduct the main survey. The survey questionnaire has been implemented on the web so that it can be administered to human resource(HR) manager and employee representatives at the workplace.
