  • SUMMARY

    This research reviews how Korean companies could respond to changes in the labor market environments such as retirement age extension in terms of HR management. For this purpose,

    Chapter two looks into the current status of the labor market along with the changes. This chapter also discusses the relations between changes in the labor market and HR management.

    Chapter three reviews 12 Korean firm case studies in order to grasp how they are responding to changes in the labor market environments. This could provide the understanding on the preparations being made by companies in response to changes in the labor market environments as well as preparations being planned for areas which have yet to be implemented. It can be anticipated that various ways of responding to changes may exist depending on the characteristics of companies and therefore, since this chapter covers companies of different sizes across the industrial portfolio.

    Chapter four examines the cases of advanced countries which have similar experiences in order to find implications for future responses in Korea. Cases from Japan, Germany, Britain, and the US were examined, as these countries experienced changes in the labor market environments prior to Korea, and had experiences in finding countermeasures.

    Chapter five summaries the results of the research and presents policy recommendations for countermeasures by Korean companies in terms of HR management.
