  • SUMMARY
During the transition from the manufacturing-oriented industrial structure to the one focused
on information and communication, there have been dynamic structural changes in job
creation and destruction, which have affected the labor market. This study analyzes how
these effects will unfold, providing a rational basis for future economic, industrial and labor
    policy directions.

In order to explore the structural changes in job creation and destruction that accompany
the transformation of industrial and corporate characteristics, this study dynamically
analyzes the differences in job creation and extinction among the manufacturing, service
and information & communication sectors by using the panel data on establishments and
employees built from the industry-wide statistical survey and employment insurance
database. The study also looks into the structure of job creation and destruction and
concentration and continuity of jobs by such corporate characteristics as the years in
operation and company size and other features.
Furthermore, job creation and destruction was categorized by individual characteristics of
employees, improving the qualitative aspect of job analysis.

Differences in the dynamic structure of the labor market between the traditional
manufacturing industries and information and communication industries are examined by
studying the relationship between the job changes stemming from structural changes in
labor demand and the movements of employee caused by individual choice, as well as by
discussing the relationship between the structure of job creation and destruction and the
    labor market.

Focusing on the manufacturing industry, this study investigates whether any difference
exists between the traditional manufacturing sector and the information and communication
manufacturing industry in how job creation and destruction react to business fluctuations.
The analysis of the fate of non-competitive companies during a period of economic slow-
down shows that recession has greater cleansing effects on information and
    communication industry.
