    Immigration Policies in Korea: Issues and Tasks 

    * The number of foreign residents in Korea is in rapid growth; Socio-economic impact of Immigrants is increasing; Immigration policies have grown in importance due to demographic changes from low birth rate and aging population. 

     

    * Establishing immigration policies to promote national competitiveness and improving immigration system to enhance socio-economic benefits from the growing influx of immigrants are essential.

     

    * Screening and selection of skilled immigrants, and improving related immigration system.
    - Setting standard for screening and selecting skilled immigrants, and establishing immigration policies based on the standard.
    - Building strategic plan for attracting excellent manpower and students from abroad and exercising social cohesion policy for sedentary immigrants such as marriage immigrants or 2nd generation immigrants.

     

    * Exploring the direction for immigration policies from a mid-to-long term perspectives
    - Need to establish comprehensive immigration policies from a mid-to-long term perspectives in accordance with the changes in demographics and industrial structure, and international trends.
