Hanam Phang, President

Currently Dr. Kiu Sik Bae (裵圭植) is the president of the Korea Labor Institute (KLI). On January 16, 2018, Dr. Kiu Sik Bae was appointed as the 12th president of the KLI by the board of directors of the National Research Council for Economics, Humanities and Social Sciences (NRCS).

Dr. Kiu Sik Bae holds a Ph.D. in Industrial and Business Studies from the University of Warwick in the UK. Since beginning his career as a research fellow at the KLI in 2000, Dr. Bae has carried out research on a wide range of topics including industrial relations (sectoral industrial relations, transportation industrial relations, public sector industrial relations, international industrial relations with a focus on China), working hours (long working hours, work shifts, part-time work, work-life balance, flexible working hours), work organizations, employment adjustments, skills, local business development and employment, Kaesong industrial park, and board-level employee representatives.

Dr. Bae previously served as a public interest commissioner of the National Labor Relations Commission from December 2014 to December 2017. He also served as a chief advisor to the Economic and Social Development Commission (formerly named "Korea Tripartite Commission”) in 2015. From October 2014 to September 2015, he served as a convenor of the expert group for reforming labor market institutions of the Economic and Social Development Commission. Throughout his career, he has provided policy advices to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, Seoul Metropolitan Government, and other government agencies of the republic of Korea.
